Nominated for the Mostra Nacional Jovens Criadores among a thousand others artists, Mab.ko won the Sculpture Category with her creation Totem. This national competition brought together young artists from different specialties in a three day exhibition event in Lisbon.
Totem is a set of five sculptures made of paper, sand and acrylic. Each sculpture has its own colours and patterns, giving them a unique and distinctive character. The geometric silhouettes are reminiscent of both architectural structures and sacred figures. By developing the vocabulary of her own mythology, the artist constitutes a language through a collection of symbols, icons, shrines…Like fetishes, these human-sized sculptures have been conceived as objects of protection, sacred emblems, which invite contemplation.
